Preparation for entrance exams to Czech universities

OSP test

OSP is a national comparative exam conducted by SCIO six times a year. The rules are that an applicant can attempt the test several times during the year.

The OSP test lasts 110 minutes and includes 90 tasks and consists of four parts – verbal, logical, argumentative and quantitative.

  • Verbal part (23 tasks and 20 min.). This tests your ability to work with language, know vocabulary, and understand complex texts.
  • Logical part (22 tasks and 30 min.). This part will test your logical thinking and analytical abilities.
  • Argumentative part (22 tasks and 30 min.). Testing your ability to work with text, understand its content, and see logical connections.
  • Quantitative part (23 tasks and 30 min.). Percentage tasks, questions with geometric shapes or unknown quantities.

Each task has several answer options, it is important to remember that for each mistake you will be deducted a part of the score. Test tasks are built on certain principles and knowledge of these principles will help you complete the tasks much faster.

TSP test at Masaryk University

Схожі принципи перевірки та оцінки студентів застосовуються і в тесті TSP Масарікова університету (чеською “test studijních předpokladů”, що в перекладі означає “тест здібностей до навчання”).

Passing the TSP test is mandatory for admission to Masaryk University, except for the Faculty of Medicine.

The exam duration is 100 minutes, each part of the test contains 10 multiple-choice questions. A correct answer is scored as one point, no answer is scored as zero points, and points are deducted for an incorrect answer. The TSP test contains the following sections:

  • Verbal part. Contains tasks related to language, its structure and vocabulary. Students are required to have a good sense of language, the ability to find and identify semantic connections, the fallacy or correctness of judgments.
  • Digital (or quantitative) part. Here the student must cope with a number of simple mathematical examples that may require knowledge of fractions, the ability to build a graph or solve equations.
  • Analytical part. The section assesses the applicant’s logical thinking.
  • The “Critical” part or tasks testing critical thinking (one of the elements that is not in the OSP SCIO test). The test tests the ability to critically evaluate and analyze disparate information, find arguments and draw conclusions. To pass the tasks, good basic knowledge of the natural sciences and humanities is required.
  • The “Cultural” part (the second part, which is not in the OSP SCIO test). Here is a collection of tasks on various topics, as the goal is to assess the general outlook of the future student. Questions may concern facts of world history, geographical terms, genres of fine arts, the field of music or art history, religious concepts, cultural eras, the activities of international organizations, and cultural figures.
